Shopping Cart Design

Role

As the Director of UI/UX Design for Jerome’s Furniture, I led the redesign of the shopping cart experience to address points of friction in the user journey, introduce new features, and ensure a clean and modern design. The focus was on enhancing usability and improving overall functionality across both desktop and mobile platforms.

Research

Through usability testing sessions and analytics reviews, we discovered that users struggled with applying discount codes, had difficulty reading form fields, and overlooked the Oops Protection Plan.

User Pain Points

  • User feedback showed customers expected a discount code field, and its absence left them unsure about applying promotions.

  • Analytics showed that cramped form fields and unclear labeling forced customers to re-enter information, reducing both efficiency and trust.

  • Qualitative feedback indicated that the optional warranty plan blended into the page, causing most users to miss a potentially valuable add-on.

Solutions and Results

  • Introducing a clearly-labeled discount code field near the order summary met user expectations, decreasing coupon-related support tickets.

  • Enlarging form fields, clarifying labels, and adding spacing improved readability, enabling faster, more error-free checkouts in usability tests.

  • Highlighting the warranty option with distinct typography and subtle contrasts increased its visibility, prompting more shoppers to notice and select it.
